The Community celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Br. O. J. Victor
20 June 2022 (Dubai, United Arab Emirates).
On 18 June, 2022, the members of the Community of Grace celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the passing away of their beloved founder, Br. O. J. Victor (1937-1997) at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Ras Al Khaimah.. Bishop Paul Hinder, Apostolic Vicar of Southern Arabia, was also present for the programme. The Holy Eucharist was celebrated by Bishop Paul at 10.00 am. Following the Eucharistic celebration, a programme to commemorate the founder and to reflect on his legacy was held at the church premises. Almost 100 community members from the UAE and several other community members from all over the world joined online for the Eucharistic celebration and the programme.
At the programme, Br. Brillis, the Moderator of the Community welcomed the gathering and also gave a message for the Community. In his address to the Community, Bishop Paul Hinder exhorted Community members to persevere while patiently working to address problems and hardships. As it was the last time he would address them as the Vicar, he imparted a special blessing to the Community, commending them to the care of the Lord through the hands of the new Bishop Paolo Martinelli who was to shortly take charge.
Several other members from the Community gave brief inputs: imitating the faith of the founder (Br. Aby); reflecting on the legacy of his life (Br. Joemon); following one’s unique vocation (Br. Joel); charism of Scripture (Br. Jacob); states of life in the Community (Fr. Olvin Veigas SJ) and mission of the Community in the church (Fr. George Plathottam SDB). Fr. Jean-Laurent from the Diocese of Brentwood and others, reflected on their experience with Community over the years.
The key message for the Community as they reflected on the life of Br. Victor was to remain faithful, to be committed, and to follow his example by doing what he did - devoting one’s life for evangelization and the spread of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
